When you hear Rachel Scott’s music, you’re immediately impressed with her beautiful voice and her obvious sincerity. Rachel sings about the poor and downtrodden (“The Least of These”), her wishes for her children (“Come Back to Love”), and God’s grace (“Seven: Fifteen”). Her music is often personal, and her goal is to help and inspire others and to testify about her Christian experience. Clearly, she is not doing this to feed her ego; she is focused on her family—husband Greg Scott, and their three young sons—and on her faith.

Working closely with Greg, who is an audio engineer and pastor, Rachel performs often at their home church, King of Kings Church, in Omaha, Nebraska, as well as performing in venues around the state and the nation.

Rachel released her first album, Home to Me, followed by Rachel Scott: Christmas EP, on the small Summerland label. Then she got an unexpected boost. As a result of a youth video featuring Rachel, the Scotts connected with well-known Christian artist Dave Lubben. Impressed with Rachel’s singing and songwriting, Lubben signed her to his Tent Creative Group record label. The result was her first major U.S. release, Resolution, in September 2008. In April 2009, Resolution was released internationally by Indelible and Word Distribution.

Since then, Scott’s career has taken off, as her songs and videos get huge numbers of hits on various music download sites, including iTunes and Amazon. Her single “Seven: Fifteen” reached the Top 10 in the UK.

Like many successful artists, Scott enjoys delivering her musical message in live performances. She has appeared with such popular Christian artists as Remedy Drive, Sara Groves, and Hillsong London, and she is currently on tour, with Greg Scott at the mixing station.

Naturally, Greg creates Rachel’s front-of-house mix using a PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2 digital mixer! “I chose the StudioLive in part because of PreSonus’ reputation,” says Greg Scott, “but I first heard about it from one of Rachel’s drummers, who uses it in his studio. I absolutely love the logic that went into the StudioLive. You can move to where you need to be on any channel at lightning speed, using the Fat Channel! If I want to access my EQ, compression, and high-pass filter settings on any channel, I am literally there with the press of one Select button, instead of going through three or four buttons and pages, as you typically need to do with other digital consoles.”

As much as Greg Scott enjoys the StudioLive 16.4.2’s ease of use, the most important aspect of the mixer is its sound quality. “I love the headroom,” explains Scott. “It’s a really clean-sounding board, and I can get great signal with a lower line-trim level than I usually get with other consoles. Lower line trim means less hiss, and less hiss means a cleaner mix.” And a cleaner mix means Rachel Scott’s fans can hear each note and understand every word of her inspired and inspirational songs.

On July 24th (our anniversary), 2009 Rachel had the distinct pleasure of opening up for Sara Groves in Fremont, NE. It was a great night. We so appreciate the journey, the people we meet, the stories we hear, the music, and best of all the worship!

The Nature of God - Rachel Scott

This past year has been an amazing journey of seeing God at work in the life of a weak, flawful, and desperate person.....me. In truth, this has been the case my entire life. The reference to the past year has do with what he is doing more recently and how intensely I see Him working through me at the core of my weaknesses.

I have been playing concerts, leading worship and touring this past year more so than any other year of my life. I remember it well about 14 years ago, hoping and speaking out about these dreams that I now can say in some ways have come to fruition. I am so thankful to the Lord for using me despite myself...it has been an honor and privilage to be welcomed into the bodies of numerous churches across the country, into the homes of people who have hosted us along the way, into the hearts and minds of people as they listen to my songs. I cannot quite express how profound this is for me.

I am compelled to write this note because of what God reminded me of in the last couple of days. I had come home from traveling about a week ago quite exhasuted. Touring, family trips, and keeping up with my 3 precious boys had taken a significant toll on me. I finally was confronting the fact that I was a bit overwhelmed at trying to strike a balance. I also had allowed thoughts and doubts to run wild in my head, with old messages playing like broken records that said "you aren't good enough, who do you think you are?, you do not have what it takes". It easy to just say to yourself..."ok...get it together....take a deep breath" , but yet never really dealing. Right? I've prided myself on having a healthy dose of self doubt, which I believe at times serves as some motivation to improve or press on. But my husband would defiantly argue that this is my enemy as well, often times debilitating me.

I found myself last week for about three days without relief, having flu symptoms, feeling depressed, overwhelmed, doubting my call, keeping a distance from friends and family, and needing some serious renewing of the mind. I remember just saying to God..."I can't try to seek you right now, will you please seek me?" I remembered that I had a CD my sister had given me. I listened to the last track with a short message on "The Nature of God". I listened and just cried as the man recited over and over again that God is good. He explained that God calls us to what is impossible for us..he calls us to walk in the unknown, and in our weakness so that He may be made strong in us. When we dwell in WHO God is, in his goodness, we then can rest in His nature and that He will sustain that which he has called us to do. This message has been a great source of encouragment this week for me.

Later that day I called a friend, and just asked simply for some prayer. Some of the heaviness I had been feeling vanquished. I was grateful for that...yet some still remained. Finally, as we were loading our trailer for a concert in Rochester, MN, minutes before we left I ran into a good friend. (not by chance I now know) I shared with her a bit about my week, and she read to me out of Philippians 1:3. She asked that as we travel I continue on in Phillipians...and as I did, God's word truly was a source of renewal. My heart was drawn to Phillppians 2:5-11 "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus; Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very NATURE of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

My change of heart was instant when I read this. Christ...who was God, became a weak human being...becoming a servant on our behalf. It is so easy to get caught up in the wieght of expectations that I feel from others, and that I place on myself. But the God of the universe, who is ALL things bright and beautiful, glorious, and magnificent, defied the expectations we placed on him, by wrapping himself in human skin, and coming to us as a servant ...so that we could know him. The glory of God then...really becomes his nature. Good, kind, humble, faithful, patient, loving, and self sacrificing. I was reminded that my call is not about fufilling expectations, but rather being a servant and bringing Christ to people. While I was leading worship last night, I remember just dwelling on the name of "Jesus"'.

The pastor at the church in Rochester told us that 5 people accepted Christ as their Lord and savior last night. Phil. 2:10 "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth....and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord."

If I Could Ask Him One Thing...

This is the video that I sent to Dave Lubben and which eventually started the working relationship between he and Rachel and I... the song is Dave's called Speak To Me.

I put this together when I was youth pastoring. I asked the kids, "if Jesus was physically standing in front of you, and you could ask him any question, what would it be?" The video reveals what their actual questions were. Keep in mind the goal of the video is to be real and show where they were at and not to be theoligically accurate. Hillsong London

On April 24, 2009, Rachel opened for Hillsong London during their US Tour in Des Moines, IA. It was a great night.

After her set the audience (just under 1k) had given Rachel a standing ovation. The funny thing is, this was one of the first concerts where we were trying to get Rachel use to using in ear monitors. If you have ever used in ears, they can be very limiting on what you hear in the room. Usually audio engineers will set up room mics to help the artist hear the crowd, but in our situation we did not have time to do that. So when she was done, she said thank you to everyone, and turned around and walked off stage not realizing that the crowd had responded to her the way they did. She could not hear them. My bad! Doh! LOL.... Greg

Way Behind on Posts!

Greetings Friends!

Sorry for being late on this update. Things have been incredibly busy these past few months. A lot has happened since December. In January and February, we traveled all over making stops in St. Louis, MO, Tulsa, Ok, Oklahoma City, OK, and Dallas, TX, and Denver, CO! Rachel continues to play regionally, Omaha, Carroll, IA, and Des Moines, IA. Rachel's new album "Resolution" released internationally on April 21, 2009.

Rachel Scott "Resolution" is available in all christian and retail stores nationwide. There are several other sites for digital download and it looks like most of them have her album also. There are typos however. Some sites list her album as "Revolution" and that is wrong. Other sites list her album as having only 9 tracks instead of 10. Her album is 10 tracks with the 10th one being "I Wonder." For you all you tangle.com fans don't worry "I Wonder" is on there!

So far I have seen her album on sites from Germany, England, Japan, and Russia, and I would assume more. More to come... thank you everyone!

Ahhh Rehearsals with The Band!

Here is a peak behind the scenes of one of Rachel's rehearsals. This usually happens after the kids are in bed, and Rachel is tired from a long day of being mommie. Thankfully we have great friends who fill in and pick up the slack to help make these times go well and be comical too. Plus this is usually a great time for me to watch ESPN sportscenter! Our boys had to have a signature photo like mommie does. So thanks to a friend of ours, we put one together for fun. Their band is called "Rock on Yo!" Hey they're (8), (5), & (2). What do you expect?!

Rachel Scott at Glad Tidings Church

This past weekend Rachel played at Glad Tidings Church in Omaha, NE, for all three of their services.

We had a great time being there! Everyone was very kind and supportive. Rachel and I were quite suprised at the hospitality given to us by the folks there. Glad Tidings is awesome! If you live in that area, you all should go to that church!

Thank you Rick and Pastor Walt! You two were awesome to work with! We love your congregation! We pray God's richest blessings on you this day, and the days to come! I firmly believe God has great things in store for you!

The Least of These Video

This was a video made by a missionary friend of Tent Creative Group. It features a recent mission trip to Africa. How fitting it was to use Rachel's song "The Least of These." Rachel was inspired to write this song when she heard a compelling story from another missionary who had served for a time with Mother Theresa. From his account, he mentioned a time when Mother Theresa was questioned by a stranger who had noticed her kiss the face of a leper. "Why would you do that?" The stranger asked. Her reply was gripping... "Because he is my Lord."

Dear Friends,

This letter comes to you with much anticipation as Greg and I have experienced some wonderful answers to prayer in regard to our ministry together and, more specifically, in the area of music ministry.

Even before we were married we sensed a calling toward this, combining Greg’s ability to utilize his technical and creative skills while I (Rachel) use my gifts in music. We both have desired to reach the local church and the communities thereof. This desire has come to fruition in many ways for us. Greg has had the privilege to serve in pastoral roles and technical ministries through the course of his professional career. I have continued to lead worship and write/record music. Together, our proudest roles are that of mom and dad to Jayden, Sam and Wes. Our vision for life begins with God first, family next, and then what flows from that – the ministry.

In the past 5 years God has taken us through quite a journey both personally and professionally. However, the vision and hope we have had all along has not wavered. Greg and I self-produced a CD 4 years ago called “Home To Me”. As a result of completing that project, we were equipped to go on a tour of Nebraska, playing around 40 locations in the first year. We have continued to be invited into churches and other venues over the previous 4 years. One year ago we also completed a six track Christmas EP “Rachel Scott – Christmas.” This entire process has been so rewarding in many ways. Perhaps for me the most rewarding aspect is talking with individuals who share with me how a song, the service, or my testimony has encouraged them. That is priceless to me.

People have routinely been asking when I will do another CD. I have been playing many of my new songs when we go out, but have nothing to let them take home. I learned so much through our first experience that I feel so specific about how I would like to approach another project. My desire has been to be able to work with a great producer who can serve as an overseer and creative “guru” to really make the entire CD cohesive and message-filled for a listener. In all reality, I never thought this would be a possibility due to a lack of financial resources and the difficulty of finding the right person.

I recently attended a women’s conference with Julaine Christiansen and God really did some surgery on my heart. I was so incredibly blessed. There were many people praying for and confirming God’s call on my life. Without me realizing, that entire weekend my husband had been dialoguing with a guy named Dave Lubben. Dave is a worship leader with Integrity Music, and has led worship with Louis Palau and at Promise Keepers events for many years. He also is a recording artist with Astonish record label as David Martin (www.astonish.com). We actually have one of his Hosanna Integrity-produced worship CDs, named “A Place Called Surrender,” that has always been nostalgic to us. (The CD can be found at http://www.worshipmusic.com/26642.html.) My husband had used one of Dave’s songs in a video he did for a youth group and just sent him a copy to say "thanks." Following that email, a surprise came. Dave Lubben invited my husband to call and chat and their conversation led to them talking about music and our music ministry. Dave, currently a producer with Tent Creative Group, said: “Send me some of her stuff." So, my husband sent him songs, pictures and video clips of what we had done from the past four years. From that began a dialogue that neither Greg nor I anticipated. We were blessed and honored to find Mr. Lubben was excited and now more intentional in his pursuit of working with me.

To make a quite long story very short, we now are in the process of recording a new CD with Mr. Lubben as the producer. Through much prayer and counsel, we believe that God gave us the green light to forge ahead and sign with Tent Creative Group, while still remaining an independent artist (I still own my music and life essentially). I would love to sit with each one of you and tell you the ways God came through in this process. He confirmed the things we had set before him in prayer, and now we are walking by faith in this ministry. Really, it’s been about taking each day at a time and just watching this all unfold.

Just to note and give further insight into how God has worked, I feel I need to share one more detail in these events. A week before I had attended the conference and before we had any interaction with Dave, I told the Lord I was willing to completely lay down the music. I truly am content pouring all my focus and energy into my role as a wife and mother. So I just asked God, “If you want this season in my life to be singly focused on my husband and children…I am happy to do that.” Thinking I made this choice to step away, I was amazed to see the turn of events the very next week. God is good and He wants us to give everything back to Him so that He can give His calling back to us…in His time. My dream was really His dream all along.

I am writing this letter first because I’ve just been encouraged to share my heart with you, but also to give you further insight into what the ministry Greg and I share is all about. As mentioned previously, it’s really about people and using the gifts God placed in us to help deepen their walk with the Lord. We have a vision for continuing this ministry through touring in the Midwest as God opens the doors.

"I Wonder" by Rachel Scott

On September 19, 2008 Rachel Scott was live in concert @ King of Kings Church, Omaha, NE. During her concert, Rachel usually takes a moment to sit down at the piano and play some of her songs solo, just her and a piano. Due to requests from fans, this has really become a norm now. Many have said they love how real and transparent Rachel is when they can hear her perform one of her songs solo as well as hear her story behind the song. It allows them to hear the song in a kind of raw state (how the song sounded when it was first written by her in its early stages). Hope you like it, this song is called "I Wonder."

Thank you everyone for your love and support of Rachel and her music. We are truly humbled. On a side note, I would love to hear from you all.
